We Are Still Not Informed About The Possibility of The Cancellation of Australia’s Tour: BCB

While the ongoing pay dispute between Cricket Australia (CA) and Australian Cricketers’ Association (ACA) is still looking far from coming to an end, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is hopeful that the upcoming two-match Test series against Australia will go ahead as per the schedule.

Any hopes of seeing Australian players in action in coming days is looking bleak as of now. With both CA and ACA at loggerheads over the new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), the players are paying a hefty price for it. More than 200 players have been left employed after the previous MOU ended on June 30 and in order to make CA change their minds over the new pay deal, the players have also started boycotting the game.

Recently, the players refused to tour South Africa for ‘A’ series and if a new pay deal is not struck soon, then the tour of Bangladesh is looking highly unlikely.

However, Nizamuddin Chowdhury, the chief executive officer of BCB, is hopeful that the series will not be cancelled. The BCB is currently busy in taking care of all the preparations with respect to the pre-tour security visit of the Australian delegate.

“We had communication [with CA] even this morning,” said Nizamuddin. “A delegate team of four to five members will come to see all the arrangements including security issues on July 25. We’re hopeful that the visit will go ahead as per as schedule.“We are not still informed about the possibility of the cancellation of the tour,” he added.

The BCB official’s comments a day after the latest talks between CA and ACA fell apart. ACA chief executive Alistair Nicholson has warned that the Ashes is under threat even if a pay deal is struck which put dark clouds over the Bangladesh tour.
South Africa has replaced Australia ‘A’ with Afghanistan ‘A’ for the upcoming tri-series and when asked whether Bangladesh has the same plan, Nizamuddin said:
“You must understand that we just cannot get an alternative considering the commitments of the international teams. Everyone is busy with their own schedule.”
The two-match series, meanwhile, is slated to start from August 27 prior to which Australia will play a two-day warm-up game from August 22.
