Pakistan fast bowler Haris Rauf shared his struggles in managing his finances during his early days and mentioned that he faced numerous difficulties in paying for his education fees before he began playing tape-ball cricket. However, things started to get better for him once he started playing this form of cricket.
Haris Rauf is arguably one of the fastest bowlers in world cricket and has been a standout bowler in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 picking up 9 wickets from four games before injuring himself during the game against Pakistan in the Super 4 stage of the continental event.
The right-arm pacer has been in red-hot form for Pakistan in the ODI Cricket and could be crucial for the team’s success in the ODI World Cup.
Haris Rauf recently told the Espncricinfo documentary ‘The Incredible Rise of Haris Rauf’ about how he financed his school tuition by selling snacks. He said that his father could not pay his university expenses.
“After matriculation, I used to work in the market selling snacks [nimco] on Sundays to be able to pay my fees. The rest of the week, I will attend school and the academy”.
“When I enrolled in university, my father was not earning enough to be able to pay my fees and I couldn’t afford it too but by playing tape-ball cricket I would easily manage my fees,” Haris Rauf said.
Pakistan are likely to rely on Haris Rauf in the World Cup who has already made a big impression in the ODIs. Blessed with pace, Rauf can nail Yorkers at will. He also has the ability to bowl well-directed bouncers that could make things tough for high-quality batters at any point of time in innings.
I Used To Earn That And Would Give It To My Mother – Haris Rauf
Haris Rauf also spoke about the financial potential of playing tape-ball cricket in Pakistan and expressed gratitude for the sacrifices his father made for the family, even sleeping in the kitchen at one point in their lives
“The boys, who play tape-ball professionally in Pakistan, easily make around 2-2.5 lakh per month. I used to earn that and would give it to my mother but I never told my father about earning this much,” Haris Rauf added.
“My father has three brothers and all lived together. My father had one big room and when my uncles got married, my father gave his room to his brothers. Eventually, we reached the point where we were sleeping in the kitchen,” Haris Rauf further added.
The bowling performance of Pakistan’s team was closely examined, and they will be missing Nassem Shah’s services in the event. Haris Rauf will have more responsibility on his shoulders in the absence of the Pakistan youngster and the right-arm pacer will be crucial for the team’s chances in the marquee event alongside Shaheen Afridi.
