“We Will Have A Talk With COA,” Says Sourav Ganguly After COA Asks BCCI To Announce Head Coach
Just a few minutes after the Vinod Rai led Committee of Administrators (COA) asked the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) to name the new Head Coach, Sourav Ganguly has replied to the committee, with whom he will have call later in afternoon,
“We will have a conference call this afternoon. We will speak with the CoA. Virat is available to speak. If they want us to speak we will,” Ganguly told India Today.
The Head Coach of Indian cricket team was to be announced yesterday i.e. June 10 but non-availability of captain Virat Kohli and Phil Simmons – one of the aspirants for the job – meant that the process wasn’t completed and CAC bought some more time do the job. Sourav Ganguly revealed that they need some more time and talk to some more people regarding the matter, as it was a long-term job as he said,
“We want to speak to Kohli once he’s back from America. We will explain to him the coaches want to function a certain way and then make the announcement. Once we make it, it has to be until the  World Cup,” he added.
Meanwhile, Virender Sehwag was the only one of five aspirants who appeared for the job in person. His interview lasted for more than two hours where he is supposed to have presented a road map for next two years, with help of a power point presentation The other four aspirants i.e. Richard Pybus, Tom Moody, Ravi Shastri and LalChand Rajput were interviewed via Skype. Until a day before the interview, Ravi Shastri was the front-runner for the job but after the conclusion of the required process, it has been learned that Sehwag and Moody are the front-runners. In fact, CAC has asked Kohli to pick a coach from these two names.
Though the committee has cleared that Virat Kohli will have no role in the appointment of the new Head Coach but he will be consulted before a new coach is announced.
CAC hasn’t decided any deadline for the job and there might be a case when team India travel to Sri Lanka sans a Head Coach.
