R Ashwin has expressed confidence in the press conference at the end of day 4 of the fourth test at SCG. Ashwin said that if India were given a chance, they will go for a win. He also refused to comment on Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s dismissal. Here is what happened in the press conference after the end of day 4.

The current situation of the match:

“We definitely conceded more runs than we would like to but they played few good shots. We started off poorly with the new ball and the situation would be different if we the way we applied the pressure, the way the ball spun and the way it was coming out for me. You don’t know it’s still pretty decently poised and they have an ace up. We have to see how it goes and we did it at Adelaide and when I batted as well there is something in the wicket but we found it difficult to score and it is a new ball wicket.”

Where do you go from here now? (Maybe the target is 350 or 355):

“I have continuously maintained it. We are here to play cricket and win games of cricket. If presented a chance to go for a victory, we will try and do it as sensibly as possible.”

Impact of Nathan Lyon as the wicket is spinning a lot:

“Genuinely Nathan Lyon has to answer it. I was batting till the afternoon and I think it’s all depends on the way how the batsmen thinks and applies. Still Joe Burns showed that the bowler can be taken on with a lot of success. So it all depends on how positively you can bat and what techniques you apply. It’s going to be a positive game tomorrow and we will also look to be positive about it.”

On the way he batted:

“I was looking to bat as long as possible, as deep as possible. This is one of my slowest innings in Test career so far. I want to eat as many overs as possible and make sure that the only team that could win from here is India. But fortunately or unfortunately the game is very well poised now.”

On Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s unfortunate dismissal:

“You know I could say something and end up in trouble. I don’t want to do that. I thought it could have hit the ground and gone, but umpire’s decision is final. I have been told that even while playing Gully Cricket about that and I respect the umpire’s decision. But having said that, I feel bad for my teammate.”

On the other hand, Joe Burns represented the hosts and said that Australia will create 10 opportunities to win the match.
