MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings released as many as five players ahead of the IPL 2020 auction. The franchise, a day ahead of the cut off date, announced that it would be releasing five players and announced the names of players released one by one. Before CSK came up with the list, a user on social media wrote that the franchise would also release their captain, MS Dhoni.
CSK came up with an epic reply to the user and won the hearts of many fans. It is known that Dhoni is one of the reasons why CSK have the biggest fan base and he is expected to remain connected with the franchise in some role even after he retires from the game.
Dhoni had joined CSK in the inaugural season of the league and has led the team in every season it has played. CSK have qualified for the playoffs in each season of IPL they have played. With three IPL title wins, CSK come second to Mumbai Indians in the list.

The franchise won IPL 2018 upon its comeback to the league and also played the final of IPL 2019. Though Men in Yellow lost to Rohit Sharma and co on the last ball of the league.

Talking of the released players, CSK released Sam Billings, Dhruv Shorey, David Willey, Mohit Sharma and Chaitanya Bishnoi. The presence of MS Dhoni in the team saw Billings play just one match in IPL 2019 and with England’s players leaving the league early every season, he was always in line to be released.
