West Indies Cricket Board on Monday (July 11) announced their 12-man squad for the upcoming four-Test series against India.
There were few surprises in the squad as Shai Hope, who scored a brilliant century against India in the two-day practice match was not included in the squad. Rajendra Chandrika , who scored a half-century in the practice match, is selected in the squad. Along with Hope, veteran wicketkeeper, Denesh Ramdin was a notable absentee from the list.
Leon Johnson, who lead West Indies Cricket Board(WICB) President’s XI against India, was rewarded for his good showing with the bat in the WICB Professional Cricket League Regional four-day tournament. Roston Chase has also been rewarded for his superb display in the domestic circuit. Chase scored 710 runs at an impressive average of 59.16 and took 23 wickets .
With Ramdin out of the squad, Shane Dowrich is the only specialist wicketkeeper in the squad. The bowling department looks a bit inexperienced as senior pacers Jerome Taylor and Kemar Roach have been left out of the squad. Devendra Bishoo will lead the spin department.
The first Test of four-match series will be played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, Antigua from July 21.
The second Test will be played at Jamaica’s Sabina Park from July 30.
The third Test in Gros Islet’s Darren Sammy National Cricket Stadium will be played from August 9.
The fourth and final Test will be played between the two sides at Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad from August 18.
