As India completed a mauling of the West Indies in Antigua, everyone seemed optimistic about the eventual outcome. It was a game where in the Indians were perfect in all aspects and departments. Anil Kumble’s tenure as the Indian coach couldn’t have commenced on a more comprehensive note than this, as the Virat Kohli led outfit registered India’s biggest overseas victory.
The fourth and final day of the Test, will be best remembered for the excellence of India’s serious match winner, R. Ashwin. The off-spinner, who scored a timely century in the first innings, was rather unlucky with the ball first time around as he struggled to take wickets. In the first innings, Ashwin, after bowling 17 overs remained wicketless.
Nevertheless, the all-rounder didn’t lose any hope as he kept his cool in the second innings. Ashwin began day 4 on an optimistic note as he was among the wickets in no time. After dismissing opener Rajendra Chandrika, it was clear that the floodgates had opened up for the tall off-spinner, whose next victim was Jermaine Blackwood. Ashwin soon also got rid of the well set Marlon Samuels as he cleaned him up with a beauty.
In all, Ashwin picked up 7 wickets to decimate the West Indies at Antigua and register a massive win for the Indians. The all-rounder was duly named the Man of the Match for his stellar efforts. Going into the second test at Jamaica, Ashwin will definitely be way too confident and positive.
