West Indies vs India 2017: Windies Name Two New Faces For Last Three ODIs, Williams, Carter Dropped

Windies Cricket has announced the 13-member squad for the last three ODIs of the series against India.

The selection panel has brought in two new faces in form of Kyle Hope and Sunil Ambris. While Hope – brother of Shai Hope – is a top order batsman, Ambris is coming in as a wicket-keeper batsman. Kesrick Williams and Jonathan Carter are the two who have been dropped from the side.

While Carter has been a non-performing element from past many games, dropping of Williams came as a surprise, as he replaced Shanon Gabriel in the side during Afghanistan ODI series and he has not been given a chance since then. Selectors have dropped a Pacer from the side and named a batsman to replace him instead.

Shanon Gabriel’s name absent from the list means he is not yet fit to participate in the series. He bowled well in the Test series against India last year, especially against Ajinkya Rahane. His addition could have been a big advantage for the team.

“Sunil Ambris and Kyle Hope are two very promising young batsmen who have been selected on the basis of strong performances in our competitions. Kyle opened on our last “A” Team One-Day tour to Sri Lanka and had some very good performances. In addition, he also had a good showing opening the batting for the Trinidad & Tobago Red Force franchise in this year’s PCL competition,” said Courtney Browne, CWI Chairman of selectors.

“Sunil did well in our Regional Super50 One-Day tournament and also had a good showing in this year’s PCL first-class tournament for Windward Islands Volcanoes and therefore will fit within our middle order. They will be up against a good Indian team and they have an opportunity to show their skills and contribute to a stronger team performance,” he added.

West Indies is trailing in the series by a margin of 0-1, by virtue of losing the second ODI by a big margin of 105 runs. The first ODI of the series was washed out, as soon as the first innings was moving towards a conclusion. The third and fourth ODI of the series will be played at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua. The Sabina Park in Jamaica will host last ODI and the only T20I game.

Indian skipper Virat Kohli would like to try out some new combinations in the upcoming games, especially Rishabh Pant as its the best platform for him to test him and prepare a team for the 2019 World Cup. (Read Here: Rishabh Pant Might Get A Chance In Third ODI)

Windies Squad for remaining ODIs – Jason Holder (c), Sunil Ambris, Devendra Bishoo, Roston Chase, Miguel Cummins, Kyle Hope, Shai Hope (wk), Alzarri Joseph, Evin Lewis, Jason Mohammed, Ashley Nurse, Kieran Powell, Rovman Powell.
