Individuals within the Pakistani cricket team are well known to be mercurial and have a poor temperament. There was no better instance than Waqar Younis’ outburst towards Shahid Afridi to justify that.
Till the 2011 World Cup, Younis was the head coach of Pakistan, while Afridi was the captain of the limited overs team. However, due to major differences between the two, Younis stepped down while Afridi was sacked from the board in May 2011.
Afridi however, known to be a lion hearted individual, soon made a rocking comeback for Pakistan against Sri Lanka in UAE, and was the Man of the Series. That gave Afridi the bragging rights and he began to praise himself and indirectly taunt Waqar Younis.
Younis responded to Afridi’s behavior, by asking him to “Shut Up and concentrate on his cricket.” Younis went on to add that Afridi never played for the team, and was a selfish player. Younis also said that rather than taunting others and just caring about himself, Afridi should indeed learn how to be a team player.
