Jofra Archer didn’t get the opportunity to play for his native country where he was born. He wanted to become a wicketkeeper. But he developed as a fast bowler during his career.
He played in under 19 for West Indies but didn’t catch the eye of the selectors because of his back injury. He had to take a break in his career.
“I was injured at the time, so I put myself pretty much to the bottom of that list. No one showed much interest so I just thought I’d try and come to England and give it a couple of years. If it didn’t happen I could always go back and try again,” Jofra Archer said.
He said, “It’s really hard to get a chance in Barbados. It’s either the first team or no team. There’s no second XI, there’s no academy really. From under-19 you’ve just got to try and break into the senior team. It’s just a long list.”
He was disappointed because he was not selected in the World Cup 2015 for West Indies. His fellow English cricketer Chris Jordan, who was also born in West Indies, helped Jofra Archer. Jordan recommended him for Sussex club and impressed everyone.

The Old eligibility rule said a player should play for seven years in England, but it decreased to three years. It helped him to play for England in the World Cup.
