India thoroughly dominated the contest at the Brian Lara Stadium to take the lead in the series. After scoring 190 for 6 in 20 overs, the visitors came up with a strong bowling display to restrict West Indies to 122 for 8. The Indian team-management sprung a surprise by promoting Suryakumar Yadav as an opener in the first WI vs IND T20I. While Rishabh Pant was expected to open the innings alongside Rohit Sharma, the team-management decided otherwise.
Suryakumar did look promising at the top as he scored 24 while Rohit top-scored for the team with 64. Both the players are likely to open the innings again in the second T20I.
