Pakistan captain Misbah-ul-Haq came under severe criticism lately after his side was bashed in the two successive Test series in New Zealand and Australia respectively last year, and now the PCB is awaiting the response from him to inform about his future plans in the side.

Though, Misbah said he will be a part of the outfit who will be touring West Indies later next month. He said, ‘I have decided that I will tour West Indies for the Test series but whether it will be as captain or player is up to the selectors and board. I think I can continue on the West Indies tour after that nothing is final as yet in my mind. However, his teammate and veteran batsman Younis Khan has shown interest in taking over the baton, if asked so.

Talking to PTI, PCB’s chief Shahryar Khan explained what happened between him and the skipper about his future course.

“The last time I met him (Misbah) in Dubai earlier this month he sought time to think over his future plans. Now whenever he gets in touch with us and if he wants to continue playing I will put the matter before my associates in the board.”

Younis Khan, 39, is the second oldest player in the Pakistan side and still has few ambitions under his sleeves, before he decides to hang his boots up. Shying away from just 23 runs to become the first Pakistani batsman to reach the landmark of 10,000 runs in Tests and is likely to achieve the feat in the first Test match itself, which begins on April 22 in Kingston, Jamaica.

“I don’t want to retire because I am enjoying my cricket and I still have lot of hunger for making runs. Even after making 10,000 runs, I want to carry on and do well for the team. I don’t think retirement comes into play until a player is fit and in form.”

Throwing his hat in the ring, the right-handed batsman said he won’t deny the opportunity if it comes along his way.

“I will definitely consider the offer if it comes along.”

The tour begins with first of the two T20Is to be played on March 31 in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad.
