BERNARD JULIEN

Trinidad’s Bernard Julien had a bit of everything: flashing strokeplay, brilliant fielding, lively left-arm seamers from a strange, stiff-legged run; orthodox or unorthodox left-arm spin. Julien was part of the 1975 World Cup winning squad and also played the final.
The 68-year-old chipped in with an unbeaten 26 runs, which made the difference between both the sides at the end. He also shared the new ball with Andy Roberts but remained wicketless.
Julien’s international career came to an end after he joined the rebel tours to South Africa in 1982–83 and 1983–84, defying the international sporting boycott of the apartheid state. Following that, he served as a coach at top local club Merry Boys in Trinidad until stepping down a few years ago.
