In one of those surprising terminations, the Windies Cricket Board sacked the head coach Richard Pybus ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019. They named Floyd Reifer as the new interim coach for the team, who will look after the team in the upcoming grand tournament as well.

Richard Pybus was appointed as the head coach of the team in January after replacing Stuart Law. It is a bit of surprise, in fact, a shocking decision from the respective board. Richard Pybus helped his side to win the historic Test series against England.

Apart from that glorious achievement, Pybus saw the Windies equalling 2-2 in a five-match ODI series against the number-one ranked ODI team; England.

Reifer has lived the principles – Ricky Skerritt

Announcing the news, the CWI president Ricky Skerritt quoted that they would like to hand services to the Floyd Reifer, who did well for the team during his stint by performing as per the principles of the West Indies.

“[Reifer] has lived the same principles of West Indian excellence that we now insist must prevail in our cricket,” Skerritt said in press conference.

In between, they also got the new chairman of selectors, who was also appointed as interim. He will replace Courtney Browne as interim head of selectors. They took the move to make the selection procedure more of a player-centric.

“We are confident that in Mr Haynes we have found an interim chairman who shares the philosophy of inclusiveness and shares our selection policy. We have found it necessary to immediately adjust our selection policy to become more open, inclusive, and player-centric,” Skerritt said.

The newly-appointed Reifer played six Tests, eight ODIs and one T20I for West Indies between 1997 and 2009. Now he will look to guide Windies to their first Cricket World Cup title since 1978. They play their first game of the World Cup against Pakistan on 31 May at Trent Bridge.

It seems like the respective board wants to bring their best players back in the side for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019. Recently, Chris Gayle made his return to the side while the players like Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, Kieron Pollard are in the ranks as well.
