Windies vs India 2019: Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah Likely To Be Rested
After the world cup exit, the Indian National Cricket Team is all set to travel West Indies to play the home side across the formats. Meanwhile, the team to pick the squad has been postponed to Sunday thus making things interesting. In between, the reports surface that Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah are unlikely to travel for limited-over matches.
Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah have been sensational for the Indian team with their exceptional work under pressure. Both carry the heavy weight of the team, as they are the true match-winners for the team. As a precautionary measure, BCCI wants to give them a rest.
Alongside Bumrah and Hardik Pandya, the players like Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami and a few other senior players might also get the rest in order to check the calibre of the current youth, who are already playing Windies-A side.
Every Test match is important –
Meanwhile, there come the new reports that Virat Kohli will be continuing to be the captain of the team across the formats. While Rohit Sharma will continue to be his deputy in the limited-overs.
“The selectors might consider resting some players for the limited-overs series. Because they have had no break in the last couple of months starting with IPL-12. But they will be aware of the fact. The World Test Championships begins will two Tests in the West Indies for India. Every Test win is important especially away from home. So it’s possible they will send a full-strength squad for the Test series,” the source quoted as per Cricketnext.
As per a report, Kohli is still seen as the best person for the role of a captain in all formats – Tests, ODIs and T20Is. The same would be confirmed after the BCCI selection committee meeting concludes in Mumbai on Sunday.
However, the top issue that the panel is likely to face is the future of former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The wicketkeeper-batsman has not made his future plans in international cricket clear after India’s exit from the ICC World Cup 2019 semifinals.
It’s unlikely that Dhoni will be selected for the tour of the West Indies beginning August 3. The selectors want to rest him after a long international season, which included a full IPL-12 season.
