Aiden Markram has got one of the rare fans in his kitty in the form of the Indian skipper Virat Kohli. Markram impressed Virat Kohli with his stylish strokeplay but unfortunately, couldn’t impress the selectors, as he was out from the team in the recent past. However, he made a stunning comeback in the domestic circuit, which pushed selectors to give him a call-up.
The flamboyant batsman wants to make the most of the final opportunity ahead of the ICC World Cup 2019. He has been called up to play the final two games for South Africa in the ongoing series against Sri Lankan side.
I would fight tooth and nail to get a place – Aiden Markram
The flamboyant batsman is in top-notch form in the domestic circuit. He wants to replicate the same in the South African Jersey to get the nod for ICC World Cup 2019. He added that the upcoming event would be his peak point in his career.
“There was a stage where it (World Cup selection) was really important to me and something I wanted, but like most things in life … you put things in perspective,” Markram said to the media, ahead of the fourth ODI in Port Elizabeth. It’s really not the end of the world, but having said that it would be a dream come true,” he added.
Further, he went on to add saying that he would fight his heart out to get into the team. Markram believes that a good show in a remaining couple of games would press his case for the selection for the grand event.
“I’d fight tooth and nail to try and get into that squad, so by no means am I floating around hoping it will happen. I’m trying my best to get into that squad, but I think things have been put into perspective. Whether I get in or not, it sits easily with me. I just want the Proteas to go there and win the World Cup for the country … that’s really it,” Markram inferred.
Well, it would be interesting to see how things would pan out for the youngster. Most probably, it would be a great thing for South Africa if he gets his nick back ahead of the grand event.
