The Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) announced their 15-man squad for the ICC World Cup 2019 on 15th of April. Apart from a few shocks, the rest of the players are what everyone predicted based on the last ODI performances. India’s all-rounder Hardik Pandya is going to play a key role in ICC World Cup 2019.

The team encompasses players like Virat Kohli(C), Rohit Sharma, MS Dhoni are already the giants of the Indian cricket team. They are the wise roots of the team while the addition of young stars such as Yuzvendra Chahal and Hardik Pandya will definitely add spark to the team.

Hardik will be the centre of attraction in the mega event which is going to be held in England and Wales. His batting form and bowling have left the opponents biting their nails off of their hands. It will be his first World Cup of his career.

Here are the Reasons Why Hardik Will Play Key Role in the World Cup 2019:

All-rounder Ability:

After Kapil Dev retired from Indian cricket there hasn’t been a genuine all-rounder in the team. However, Pandya has come forward as a bright prospect becoming the perfect all-rounder for the team.

Repeatedly, since his return, Pandya has proved why he is important for the team. At all given moments, he has performed outstandingly. In the ODI series against New Zealand earlier this year, his quickfire 45 off 22 balls and two wickets had turned the game around.

Even in the current T20 tournament of Indian Premier League, Pandya has been flamboyant on the field. He scores quick, raising the runs-chart in his favour, at the most crucial point for his team.

While the pacer has been successful in scalping important wickets, he has done a fine job in the field in plucking amazing catches of the best of the players.

Present Form:

Pandya is currently playing Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2019. His current ‘helicopter’ performance in the IPL matches has the bowlers fearing him, especially in the death overs.

In 10 matches of IPL 2019, he has made 241 runs at a strike rate of approximately 190. It is the second highest strike rate of IPL after Russell’s 213.69. Each performance in the matches seems to boost his confidence to perform even better.

His consistency in the game makes him one of the most dreaded batsmen of the IPL. And he will help make a stronger batting order for the team India as this time in the World Cup.

England Experience:

England’s condition has changed drastically in the past few years. It has turned into more of spinner friendly. Meanwhile, Pandya’s own experience in the English conditions had been fairly good.

He had scalped five wickets conceding 28 runs at the Trent Bridge in the last Test series played by him against England.

Pandya is known for his outswingers which creates doubts in the batsmen’s mind. It was his career-best bowling performance in Test matches. In the total of 44 matches, he had scored 731 runs snatching 44 wickets.

Handy against Spinners:

Pandya’s eye lits up whenever he sees a spinner in front of his eyes. In his international career so far, Hardik had hit 65 sixes and 55 fours. Hardik has a penchant of hitting spinners out of the stadium.

As much as Hardik can hit any bowler, given his day, he has a thing for smashing a spinner for three consecutive sixes. In the fifth match of the ODI series against New Zealand, Hardik smashed three consecutive sixes in the 47th over of the innings.

In ICC Champions Trophy 2017, Hardik had wreck havoc on Imad Wasim. He had hit three consecutive sixes on the first three balls. It was the first time when he smashed a spinner brutally.

After this incident, Hardik made it seem like his mission to destroy spinners every time he would come across one.

Later that year in the ODI series against New Zealand, Hardik unleashed his power hitting abilities on the Kiwi spinner Todd Astle
