Adam Gilchrist vs Sri Lanka: 149 runs

The wicket-keeper batsman Adam Gilchrist played an explosive inning against Sri Lanka in the rain-interrupted grand finale of the 2007 World Cup.

Gilchrist opened the innings for his side and stood there till the end. He scored 149 off 104 balls, striking thirteen fours and eight sixes. With his contribution, Australia set up the target of 281 runs at the loss of four wickets.

Sri Lanka could not reach the target though they were given the revised target of 269 runs. Thus, Australia won the match by 53 runs and lifted their second World Cup trophy.
