Indian Test wicket-keeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha returned to form in the ongoing Sed Mushtaq Ali Trophy as he hit a blistering century for Bengal against Arunachal Pradesh.
Opening the innings with Ritwik Chowdhury, Saha went on to bat till the final over of the game and played a big innings of 129 off 62 that included 16 fours and fours sixes, batting at a strike-rate of 208.06.
Saha was going through a rough patch in the tournament, having managed just 22 runs in first four matches.
The move to open the innings with Saha did wonder for the team and the wicketkeeper-batsman hit a century after a change in the batting position.
This was Saha’s first century in professional in over a year.
The ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is a comeback tournament for him as prior to this tournament, he hadn’t played any professional match since May 2018.
Saha was out of action after IPL due to injuries that he had suffered.
He had suffered a thumb injury during IPL that followed a shoulder issue, that kept him out for long.
He underwent surgery for it in the UK last year and trained at NCA for a long time.
He was cleared to make his comeback in the T20 tournament and Saha finally found form for his state team.
He is all set to play upcoming IPL season for Sunrisers Hyderabad and is expected to do the wicketkeeping duties in all the matches.
Saha would also be eyeing a comeback in the national team for the Test series after World Cup.
In all likeliness, he will be back in the national team for the Test series against Windies but is not guaranteed of a place in the playing XI.
In his absence, Rishabh Pant has performed quite well and he looks set to keep the top spot, ahead of Saha.
The latter will only be getting a chance if Rishabh fails to bat well in few matches.
India will travel to Windies for a Test series after World Cup 2019.
