Gujarat Titans mentor Gary Kirsten feels that it is unfair to compare young Indian opener Shubman Gill to legendary Indian Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and batting maestro Virat Kohli, as the young Gujarat Titans opener is still in the early playing days of his career.
The 23-year-old is already touted to be the next big thing in Indian Cricket and has been performing exceptionally for the Men in Blue in all three formats. He has been in the form of life since the start of the 2023 season, proving to be a vital cog for the Indian team in International Cricket, and carried on his form in the IPL 2023.
Speaking on Cricbuzz, Gary Kirsten believes that Shubman Gill has got the tremendous skillset to play at the highest level for the Indian team and reckons that it was too early to compare the Indian youngster to Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli and feels that he got the talent to play in all three formats for the country.
“He is a young player who has incredible skill and determination to be one of the best players in the world. It would be unfair to compare him to Sachin and Virat so early in his journey,” Gary Kirsten.
“I believe he has the game to successfully play across all three formats for India. You don’t often see that, these days, particularly as T20 cricket is developing and progressing so fast.”
Shubman Gill has been the top performer for the 2023 finalist Gujarat Titans in this edition of the IPL. The Indian youngster has slammed 890 runs at an average of 59.33 and a strike rate of 157.80 as he scored three centuries in the last five games against a formidable bowling attack.
Like Any Player He Will Be Met With Challenges And Obstacles – Gary Kirsten
Former Indian head coach Gary Kirsten, who has closely worked with young Shubman Gill in Gujarat Titans in the last two years in the cash-rich league believes that the Indian opener has got all the credentials to be next big in Indian Cricket and reckons that he would face challenges along the way in his journey and said that he would want him to keep learning going forward.
“Shubman has all the credentials to become a great player for India, across all the formats. Like any player he will be met with challenges and obstacles; how he handles those and keeps progressing will ultimately determine his long-term success. I would encourage him to keep learning and to engage with those who can offer him, trusted counsel,” Gary Kirsten added.
