Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly believes the Indian team has shown the ability to make a comeback from these kinds of situations against Australia in recent times and also recalled Rishabh Pant’s heroics against Baggy Greens in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2021-22.
The present Indian Cricket team made a stunning comeback after starting poorly in the game. They were on the back foot in both of their wins in England in 2021 at the Lord’s and The Oval, where they made a comeback to win the game. The Indian batter would like to put up a good performance in the final innings of the game to give their side a real chance against the well-planned Australian bowling attack.
Speaking to the Broadcasters, Sourav Ganguly feels that the Indian team has already shown the ability to fight back from tough situations in red-ball cricket and recalled the team’s performance against Australia on their home soil, stating the brilliant knock of Rishabh Pant in the Gabba to help India win the series 2-1 in 2021-22 and reckons that the team needs that forget about the scoreboard and try to form a partnership in the middle.
“India has the ability to make a comeback from this situation. India did against Australia, in Australia with batters like Pant and Jadeja. Especially Pant who batted magnificently out of their skin to see them through. If they can do it again, I am not too sure. They just need to forget about the scoreboard and go and play and put up a partnership,” Sourav Ganguly said.
At the end of Day 3, the Australian team was comfortably placed in the Ultimate World Test Championship against India, as they lead by 296 runs in the 2nd innings, with their star batter Marnus Labuschagne and Cameron Green batting in the middle, as they will look to extend their lead going into the final phase of the game.
You Know That This Is Probably Your Last Chance – Sourav Ganguly On Ajinkya Rahane
Sourav Ganguly hailed Ajinkya Rahane for his exceptional comeback into the International scene following his exploits for the Chennai Super Kings in their title-winning campaign in 2023 and reckons that the Indian veteran batter has made full use of his chance in the Ultimate match to prove his worth in the highest level.
“Exceptional knock, to make a comeback after 18 months, it is not easy, World Test Championship final. You know that this is probably your last chance. You have been called for a big match,” Sourav Ganguly added.
Ajinkya Rahane has been the best batter for the Indian team in overseas conditions in recent years, as he scored some important runs for the Men in Blue and is expected to play a vital role for the team in the 2nd innings, as the team is expected to have record 4th innings total for the chase in WTC final in Kennington, Oval.
