Australia’s Primary Spinner Nathan Lyon feels that it is important for the Australian team to concentrate on the World Test Championship final against India rather than thinking about the Ashes Summer in England. The Baggy Green will look to utilize England conditions to come over the top of the Indian team in the Oval.
As India qualified for the WTC Final for the second time in a row, Australia will make its debut appearance in the final. World Test Championship final will be a big opportunity for the Indian team to end India’s drought in ICC events as the all-exciting WTC finals but will face stiff competition from the Aussies team in much-awaited finals.
Speaking on AAP, Nathan Lyon believes that the team should concentrate on the WTC final against India and said that the team has prepared very well for the English summer and reckons that it is an exciting final, as everyone is excited for the WTC final and Ashes 2023.
“Yes, we are playing the Ashes but we’ve got a big game that we’re up for. This is our grand final, and then our season basically starts again. That’s probably where we’re quite happy with where we’re at with our planning. We can understand what we’ve got around the corner, and be OK,” Nathan Lyon said.
“It’s exciting to be part of the final and the fanfare and stuff around it, it’s bloody special. I know every Australian fan is looking forward to the Ashes, and so they should be. But they should also be excited about this match. You can wipe off anything that happened in India,” he added.
Earlier in BGT 2023, Nathan Lyon became the highest wicket-taker on Asian soil from a Non-Asian cricketer to surpass Australian bowling legend Shane Warne in red-ball cricket and also became the first Australian player to take 100 wickets in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) and the Australian off-spinner will have a crucial role to play against India in the final.
It’s Fresh Start, I’m Looking Forward To It – Nathan Lyon
Nathan Lyon feels that the final will be a closely contested one as both the teams have good players in their squad, stating the Indian team has got some class batters and fast bowlers in the team and said that he is excited to play the highly anticipated final.
“Both teams are well-rounded in their squads. It is going to be a really good challenge. India has some class batters but they have some class fast bowlers as well. It’s going to be a good challenge. Both squads going at it and competing for one game, it’s going to be a really good challenge. It’s a fresh start. I’m looking forward to it,” Nathan Lyon concluded.
Australia will most probably go with Nathan Lyon as the lone spinner in the bowling attack, as they would be tempted to go with three pacers alongside Cameron Green as the fast-bowling all-rounder in the team.
