Former Indian World Cup winner Ravi Shastri believes that the present Indian team has the potential to win the ICC trophy for the country in the upcoming events, as the team has shown good promises in recent ICC events. Team India will look to end their long-awaited ICC trophy win against Australia in the World Test Championship final.

India will compete in their second straight WTC Final, this time taking on Australia in search of their first ICC trophy since winning the Champions Trophy in 2013 under MS Dhoni.

Since then, India has advanced to the ODI World Cup semifinals in 2015, the T20 World Cup final in 2016, the ODI World Cup final in 2019, and the 2021 WTC Final but could not go one step further in the big tournaments.

Speaking to the media, Ravi Shastri feels that sometimes luck needs to go in the favour of the Indian team, as the team has competed well enough in the ICC events and reckons that this Indian team is capable of winning the ICC trophy for India, as the players are doing very well for the country.

“You have to compete. Sometimes, you need a little bit of luck going your way as well. I won’t say we didn’t play good cricket. We have played very good cricket.

“The rub of the green hasn’t quite gone their way. I always say this team is good enough to win an ICC trophy. When I was there, I used to say the same thing… especially in the last 3-4 years, I thought the team was good enough to win an ICC trophy. Those players are still there,” Ravi Shastri said.

The full strength of the India squad has begun training at the Arundel Castle Cricket Club in Sussex for the World Test Championship final, following the completion of the cash-rich league and the players will look to transfer their white-ball cricket form into the red-ball cricket.

But It’s A One-off Test, Just One Bad Day Can Ruin Your Chances – Ravi Shastri

With many experts feel that Australia are the clear favourites for the World Test Championship final against India especially in the England conditions and Ravi Shastri feels that even one bad day in the game can ruin their chances in the final.

“Everyone’s saying Australia are clear favourites because we are playing in England. But it’s a one-off Test, just one bad day can ruin your chances. Australia also need to be very careful,” Ravi Shastri added

The Indian team will be without the services of KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, and Rishabh Pant as they will miss out on the grand event due to injury problems, as the Indian team will require their experienced players to step in highly anticipated final starting on June 7 at Oval.
