Australian wicket-keeper batter Alex Carey feels that their team needs to be patient against the experienced Indian batting duo Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane on the final day of the Ultimate World Test Championship final and believes that the pitch will help their bowlers on the fifth day of the game.
Indian team came up with a positive approach in the chase of 444 runs, as the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill batted with great intent before the youngster was dismissed on the controversial call by the third umpire just before the Tea, as the Indian skipper and Cheteshwar Pujara too played well before playing bad shots to walk back to the pavilion.
Indian batting maestro Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane once again shifted the momentum in the favour of the Indian team as they stitched an unbeaten partnership of 71-run stand for the fourth wicket of the game to keep their side in the team.
“They’ve got two class players in at the moment so we’ve got to stay patient, (The pitch) is still doing bits and pieces, but hopefully those chances will come,” Alex Carey told the BBC.
Australian bowlers were indisciplined with their line and length, as they could not execute their plans against the Indian batters on the fourth day, as the pitch didn’t offer any assistance to Australian pacers, as they will look to come hard on the final day of the game.
We Were Happy And The Right Decision Was Made – Alex Carey
Alex Carey shared his opinion on the much-debated topic of Cameron Green’s catch of the Indian opener Shubman Gill, as he feels that the right decision was made at the end by the third umpire and admitted that the team was not happy with their bowling as they will look to pick up some quick wickets on the final day of the game.
“Looked good to me (on the Green catch), we were happy and the right decision was made. It’s not great to see them scoring at 6 rpo (Runs per over), but we pegged them back, quick wickets do help and we’ll look for more tomorrow,” Alex Carey added.
Alex Carey was involved in a 93-run stand with Mitchell Starc for the seventh wicket to help their side post a hefty 444 runs to chase for the Indian team, At the end of Day 4, India were 164/3 at stumps as the Rohit Sharma-led side will require 280 runs to chase down their maiden World Test Championship final in Kennington, Oval.
