Yashasvi Jaiswal, Arjun Tendulkar Named In Mumbai Squad For CK Nayudu Trophy Quarter-Final 1

Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has named a strong squad for the quarter-final of CK Nayudu Trophy, which takes place later this week. The selectors have included India U-19 player Yashasvi Jaiswal, Arjun Tendulkar and Sarfaraz Khan in the squad for the knockout contest. Hardik Tamore, who recently made his Ranji Trophy debut, will lead the side.

With 400 runs at 133.33, Jaiswal finished as the highest run-scorer of U-19 World Cup 2020. The left-handed batsman has played senior cricket but since there is no domestic competition left, the selectors named in the junior squad.

Jaiswal is a part of Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2020 and might get to open in a couple of matches as well. The franchise snared him for a big amount of Rs 2.4 Crore.

Arjun Tendulkar, Aakash Tigers, Triumph Knights, T20 Mumbai League

Tendulkar is another big name on the list. The left-arm pacer is yet to make his debut in senior cricket. Although he has played a couple a junior Test matches for the U-19 team. Since he wasn’t eligible for U19 World Cup 2020 – due to his age – Tendulkar wasn’t included in the junior white-ball squads in 2018/19.

He has a wealthy experience of bowling to international players. He is a regular net bowler at Lord’s and has also bowled to Indian players and Mumbai Indians’ nets as well.

Sarfaraz, who switched back to Mumbai in 2018, had a dream run on his comeback. The right-handed batsman finished the Ranji Trophy season with 928 runs from nine innings at 154.66. He had left Mumbai for Uttar Pradesh before 2015/16 season. Upon his return, he had to serve one-year cooling-off period to be eligible for selection.

Surprisingly, there was no place U-19 player Divyash Saxena in the squad. He scored 150 runs in five World Cup matches.

Mumbai face Pondicherry in the first quarterfinal of CK Nayudu Trophy at Wankhede Stadium from February 22. The winner of the game will face either of Madhya Pradesh and Jharkhand in the semi-final.
