Former Pakistan cricketer Yasir Arafat feels that recent remark by his former teammate Shahid Afridi on the recent turmoil in Kashmir was not requisite.
Meanwhile, Afridi recently engaged in a spat with Indian cricketers over the politically-troubled Kashmir region. He urged the United Nations (UN) to interfere and defend the human rights of the civilians of Kashmir. Recently, cases of violence hit out in the Indian state of Kashmir.
Arafat, in his column on PakPassion, noted it was not right for Afridi to jump into the matter.
Moreover, Arafat believes a cricketers job is to play so Afridi’s comments made no sense.
“The recent spat on social media between Shahid Afridi and a few Indian cricketers has caused some controversy,” Arafat wrote.
“Let me say that I am a firm believer in the approach that a politician’s job is to practice politics. whilst a sportsman’s job is to play a sport on the field,” Arafat added.
“It makes no sense and does not seem right for me as a sportsman, who knows little about foreign affairs, to start discussing such matters on social media,” he stated.
“Let the politicians handle such matters and as sportsmen, talking on these issues does not look nice under any circumstance,” he added further,” He opined.
However, on a different note, Arafat admitted that the successful completion of Windies series is a positive thing. He maintained such series would play a crucial role for Pakistan cricket in nutshell.
Yasir Arafat also congratulated all the officials who worked hard to make the series a success.
“The inputs regarding the security situation in Pakistan of the various players’ associations for each country such as England, Australia or New Zealand,” he remarked.
“Also play an important role in the final decision by the boards of different countries to tour Pakistan,” Arafat opined.
Arafat has been playing in the County cricket. He remarked more has to be done in order to restore cricket back in the country.
The former medium pacer has lauded the efforts of organizers.
The good news as far as Pakistan is concerned is that the series against the West Indies passed by without any incident or mishap. The tour can, therefore, be deemed a complete success from an organisational point of view,” Arafat concluded.
