Yorkshire Vikings on Thursday (June 27) have named Windies’ explosive wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran in their squad for the T20 Blast. The southpaw’s inclusion will bolster Yorkshire’s batting line-up who has been known for his pyrotechnics in the shortest version of the game.
Currently, the promising youngster is the part of Caribbean World Cup squad in the United Kingdom. Except for India game, Pooran in five innings, Pooran has amassed 163 runs at an average of 40.75.
Pooran to play for Yorkshire Vikings at the T20 Blast:
Known for his audacious stroke-making, Pooran is expected to add stability in the Yorkshire team. The T20 Blast campaign will commence from July 19. Pooran will make himself available for the prominent County team.
While speaking about his contract with Yorkshire, Pooran is delighted to partake in the T20 Blast. He maintained it would be a great learning curve for him being as a youngster.
Also, he expressed that he wants to visit the United Kingdom often than not in a bid to learn from the English experience
“I’m very excited to be joining Yorkshire. It will be a new and exciting experience for me. I just want to come over to this country and continue the good work I’ve been doing and learn from the whole experience,” Pooran said in a release.
The big-hitting sensation Pooran will return to the Caribbean shores to represent the national team in the limited-overs series against India.
Also, the exciting prospect will be the part of Windies’ T20 International series which will commence from August 3 in Florida.
Yorkshire looking for an early impetus?
Martyn Moxon, who is Yorkshire’s Director of Cricket, is elated to have availed services of Pooran. Personally, Pooran has done incredibly well in the T20 fold. Despite a short stint, Moxon believes Pooran’s inclusion will benefit Yorkshire at the premium T20 competition in the UK.
“He (Pooran) is an excellent young talent and has done particularly well in T20 cricket. And, although he is only available for a short period. We hope it will give us early impetus in the competition,” Moxon said.
Pooran, who features for Trinidad and Tobago in the domestic fold, has made his international debut with T20I in 2016. So far, he has amassed 218 runs in 11 T20Is. Also, he has two half-centuries to his name.
Since 2013, in overall 102 T20s, Pooran has garnered 1932 runs at an average of 23.3, which also saw him recording nine fifties.
