You Can’t Compare Virat Kohli To MS Dhoni Or Rohit Sharma Regarding IPL Captaincy – Gautam Gambhir
Of late, Virat Kohli came under the scanner for his poor captaincy in the Indian Premier League 2019. A section of people felt that Kohli should be sacked from the captaincy. In between, Gautam Gambhir statement further adds fuel to it, as he feels Kohli can’t even come close to MS Dhoni or Rohit Sharma.
Gambhir believes that MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are way ahead than Virat Kohli in terms of IPL captaincy. He doesn’t feel that Virat Kohli can be compared to the duo. So far, Virat Kohli hasn’t lead the team to championship even once in his IPL career while both the teams have enough cups in the wardrobe.
This year, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a horrible start to their campaign and ended up with the wooden spoon with 11 points. On the other hand, Rohit and Dhoni faced off in the summit clash with Mumbai Indians claiming their fourth title with a one-run win over Chennai Super Kings.
Rohit Sharma is next Virat Kohli – Gautam Gambhir
Further, he showered words of praise on Rohit Sharma for his captaincy skills. He believes that Rohit Sharma is right up there in the top bracket, as he already won quite a few important tournaments for him and India. He recalled Asia Cup, which was won under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.
“I think he (Rohit) is probably right up there. He has won four IPL trophies and if you talk about IPL cricket, he is the most successful captain. He captained the team in Asia Cup and won it so he is probably next to Virat Kohli,” Gambhir said in an interview to ESPN Cricinfo.
“And I have always maintained that you cannot compare Virat Kohli to Rohit Sharma or MS Dhoni. They are four-time and three-time champions (in the IPL) and you haven’t won the IPL. So from the captaincy point of view, you can’t compare them. He (Rohit) is right up there at the top now and I think the whole country knows about it.”
Well, this is not the first time that Gautam Gambhir took on Virat Kohli regarding the Indian Premier League stats. Earlier, he quoted that Virat Kohli is lucky enough to get a franchise like Royal Challengers Bangalore, who relied their trust on Kohli for the last six years now.
