Indian skipper Rohit Sharma said that the team is not looking at going unbeaten to the semifinals of the ongoing ODI World Cup ahead of their game against Sri Lanka in Mumbai. Rather, Team India plans for one match at a time. The Men in Blue have done incredibly well in the marquee event, with the home team winning in six of the six games played.
With six victories in as many games thus far, the Men in Blue are riding high and will look to pass South Africa at the top of the standings once more winning against the Island nation. On the other side, Sri Lanka enters the match fresh off after a dismal defeat to Afghanistan, while both the teams will look to put up a fine display on the ground, which hosted the 2011 ODI World Cup final.
Speaking to the media ahead of their game against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma said that the team focuses on playing good cricket on the given day rather than looking to stay unbeaten throughout their ODI World Cup campaign.
Regarding his batting, Rohit stated that he currently enjoys it but believes that as an opener, he must evaluate the situation before scoring runs in different conditions.
“You don’t think that far. You deal with the match on hand, try and play good cricket, and then move on to the next match. We aren’t thinking about staying unbeaten and all. Every day is a fresh day,” Rohit Sharma said.
“As an opener, I step in at zero for zero and then I try to set up the tempo, gauge the pitch, identify how many runs need to be scored or how much would be ideal on a pitch. Last game against England, we lost some early wickets and then I had to bat according to that situation. All I can say is that I am enjoying my batting,” Rohit Sharma added.
With a game-winning 87, Rohit Sharma extended his incredible run and was named Player of the Match in the game against the defending champions. He wasn’t the only positive development for the Men in Blue, as bowlers were clinical to wrap up things for the team in Lucknow.
I Have No Hesitation In Playing Two Seamers And Three Spinners – Rohit Sharma
Rohit Sharma feels that Indian bowlers are in a good rhythm at the moment and revealed that bowlers want to keep playing more matches to get their momentum right through the tournament and also stated that he would not think twice about deploying three spinners in the game if the conditions favour the slow bowlers.
“The bowlers are in good rhythm and the feedback is that they want to keep playing matches. As for fielding three spinners, if the conditions demand then I have no hesitation in playing two seamers and three spinners. It all depends on the pitch and conditions,” Rohit Sharma further added.
Team India has opted to field two spinners in every game except the one against Australia in Chennai, where Ravichandran Ashwin played as the third spinner in the team and it is highly unlikely that the Indian team would opt to play him in Wankhede since the conditions would assist seamers a bit in the early part of the innings.
