Young Latham To Lead Blackcaps In Absence of Stars For Tri-series

Blackcaps Southpaw Opener Tom Latham will be leading New Zealand in upcoming tri-series tournament against Ireland and Bangladesh. Recently Tom Latham’s form was in question but senior players Indian Premier League commitment gave him a golden opportunity in Limited Overs format.

New Zealand’s most of the senior players are having their IPL commitment. The triangular series will begin from 12th of May and New Zealand will face Ireland on 14th may. This triangular series will be held just before the big Champions Trophy 2017.

Only Ross Taylor and Jeetan Patel are the only two experienced player in the squad, other than that Blackcaps have also called up two new faces in Seth Rance and Scott Scott Kuggeleijn. Seth Rance is a fast bowler from Central District and was in joint highest wicket-taker in the domestic t20 tournament for Central District.

Scott Kuggelleijn is a young fast bowler from Northern District. Scott was drafted into the test squad against South Africa but did not get the desired cap. Now he has a chance of making debut for the Blackcaps in this upcoming triangular series. Kuggelleijn was top wicket taker in Ford Trophy.

New Zealand has also recalled Hamish Bennett, All rounder George Worker, Colin Munro in their squad. Off-spinner Jeetan Patel will join the squad for the fourth ODI. Fast Bowler Hamish Bennett played his Last ODI for New Zeland in 2014 against India. New Zealand selector Gavin Larson said,

“This is a fantastic opportunity to give young players a taste of international cricket, as well as reward guys who have pushed their way back into contention. Scott and Seth have worked their way into the side following superb domestic form over an extended period of time, which is equally true for George and Hamish who have earned recalls.”

New Zealand Squad- Tom Latham(C), Hamish Bennett, Neil Broom, Scott Kuggeleijn, Colin Munro, James Neesham, Henry Nicholls, Jeetan Patel, Seth Rance, Luke Ronchi, Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Ross Taylor, Neil Wagner, George Worker.
