Just before the series was scheduled, Pakistan Captain Misbah ul Haq and Backbone of Pakistan’s batting line-up Younis Khan said goodbye to Test Cricket. But in Pakistan coming back from retirement looks like a fashion for most of the legends. Pakistan might not suffer a double blow as Misbah ul Haq had already decided to hang his boot after West Indies tour.
Younis Khan is now thinking about extending his international career provided the team requests him to do so. He is open to the idea of prolonging his career if the team and boards insist him to do so. Just before the first Test in Jamaica Younis hinted that and said,
“Yes, I will think about it. It all depends on if my team needs me. If they request me or people want me then why not? but it all depends on my team”
Possibilities will increase if he continues to score runs even in this series. Younis Khan is Pakistan’s most consistent batsman and is just 23 runs away from 10,000 runs milestone. He will be the first Pakistani batsman to reach in that elite club comprising of world’s best Test batsmen. Younis Khan announced his retirement only two days later to Misbah’s announcement and for the Pakistan in this transition period was like a big blow.
They both together have done a lot for Pakistan cricket, recently in England, Pakistan drew Test series 2-2. Last time in 2010 when they toured England Spot – fixing saga took the pride of from the Pakistan Cricket but according to Misbah, the 2016 win was connected to lost pride. In that series, Younis and Misbah both did well with the bat to power Pakistan to a draw and come closer to number one in ICC rankings.
