Australia legend Merv Hughes might have retired from the game a long time ago but the famous indomitable  fighting spirit in him is still alive. And he showed it once again on Tuesday (June 20) after a cricket fan accused him of verbally abusing his brother.

The former Australia pacer was at Edgbaston to see the first Ashes Test. The Test match lived up to the expectations as Australia beat England by 2 wickets to register a thrilling win. Chasing 281, Australia were reeling at 227 for 8 before an unbeaten stand of 55 run between Pat Cummins and Nathan Lyon took them home in a thrilling manner.

Merv Hughes accused of abusing fan:

Talking about the incident involving Merv Hughes, a cricket fan accused the former fast bowler of verbally abusing his brother in the toilets at Edgbaston during the Test match. Tagging Hughes in his tweet, the fan tweeted: “@MervHughes332 any reason you told my brother to shut the f**k up today in the Edgbaston toilet when he simply asked you how the game was going. D**khead.”

Hughes, however, was having none of it. After noticing the tweet, he decided to respond to it in his own style, tweeting: “You were there were you …. Heard the full conversation – your as bigga d**khead as your brother!”

Hughes is currently in England as he hosts an Ashes tour for fans. The cameras showed him looking tensed during the final day action on a number of occasions. Since his retirement from the game, Hughes has remained busy as a radio and TV personality with his own fishing show on Channel Seven. Meanwhile, the second Ashes Test is scheduled to be played at the Lord’s from June 28.
