England opener Alex Hales, who has recently hung boots from International Cricket said that if he is young he would have committed himself to be a white ball cricketer as the game differs from format to format. The English opener was part of England’s victory in the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Alex Hales played a vital role in England’s World Cup victory in 2022 as he played a pivoting role in the 2022 T20 World Cup for England scoring 212 runs at an average of 42.20 playing an important role alongside England skipper Jos Buttler opening the batting in Australia.
Speaking on Sky Sports Cricket, Alex Hales believes that T20 Cricket suits his style of game more as he bats more on his instincts and revealed that he would do Will Smeed if he is young at the moment to play county championship only in white-ball cricket and reckons that it is rare to see players who are good at all three formats, especially with the emergence of white ball cricket.
“Just with the way I play, and my instincts and my technique, I would’ve chucked my eggs into the T20 basket – for sure,” he said.

“I would do a Will Smeed – and fair play to him for doing that. It’s a bold decision. Hopefully, it works out for him. I think the way the game is now, you’re seeing fewer and fewer people who are exceptional at all three formats. There’s obviously a select handful who are brilliant at all three, but you see the way the game has gone – especially the last sort of five years – you see more and more specialists,” Alex Hales said.
The English opener has represented England in 11 Tests, 70 One-Day Internationals, and 75 T20Is with his best format being the T20 format. The hard-hitting opener has played a pivotal role in England’s aggressive approach in white-ball cricket which changed the fortunes for England in International Cricket.

“Winning a World Cup final is the highest of highs for me, To get to do that after I thought I would never get that chance, after what happened in 2019… it’s rare as a sportsman to get to bow out at the top and on your terms,” Alex Hales added.
The 34-year-old made a sensational comeback to the England team last year and played a big role in their T20 World Cup triumph. He was dropped from the team in 2019 when he failed a recreational drugs test and was dropped for the 2019 World Cup.
