Yuvraj Singh , the World Cup hero of Indian cricket has been conferred with the Padma Shri Award , which is the fourth highest civilian honour in India. He got this on Sinday and was handed by the Home Secretary of the Indian Government. Yuvraj Singh even posted his picture , with the award in his hand and his mother and other concerned authorities near him.
It was announced on 25th of Jan , 2014 and Yuvraj was among 7 sportsmen listed for this award. Overall, 125 pther personalities from different spheres of life will also be conferred with this.
The other sportsmen , receiving this award are Dipika Pallikal (squash) , Leander Paes from Tennis. Former Indian women’s cricket captain Anjum Chopra, Sunil Dabas (Kabaddi), Love Raj Singh Dharmshaktu (Mountaineering), H. Boniface Prabhu (Wheelchair Tennis) and Mamta Sodha (Mountaineering) were the other sports persons, selected for this year’s Padma Shri awards. The names were shortlisted by a committee headed by the home secretary from recommendations sent by state governments and important personalities.
Yuvraj Singh was India’s hero in the 2011 World Cup , where he came out of the blues to emerge as the ‘ Man of the Tournament’. He also played a key role in India’s win in the 2007 World Cup, where became the first player in the history of the T20 to hit 6 sixes in an over , with Stuart Broad being the bowler.
He also recovered from cancer and recently his father also managed to do the same. He is the same lad who managed to get the most lucrative deal of the IPL7 .
