In the international arena, Yuvraj Singh has been quite a hero. The stylish left-handed batsman, who is proud to be a major part of two world cup winning squads, single-handedly rescued India on a number of occasions in the past.
But, the same story cannot be repeated for his performance in all the nine editions of the Indian Premier League, and Yuvraj now admits he has not been quite lucky in the cash-rich T20 tournament. The stylish cricketer while giving an interview in a city restaurant in Delhi got candid about why IPL has not worked for him.
“I feel that IPL has been a little tough for me. I have not had the same form that I have when I play for India. Especially in the last three-four years, I haven’t been part of one team and it hasn’t been that good for me,” he said.
Yuvraj Singh has played for five franchises including Punjab (2008-10), Pune (2011, 2013), Bengaluru (2014), Delhi (2015) and is now playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad. “I really don’t know why I haven’t had the greatest luck in the tournament. I guess in a team it is important for players to gel with each other. You take a few players and then go on to build a team around them for two-three seasons to win the championship. Unfortunately, that has never happened with me.”
The 35-year-old Indian all-rounder, however, believes there will be a change of fortune “I hope that I can now stick with one franchise for a few years and play well in this tournament,” he further said.
Sunrisers Hyderabad were boosted with the return of their middle-order star batsmen Yuvraj Singh to the squad earlier this week. The left-hander joined the squad and resumed training with the team members.
Yuvraj was injured and had missed this year’s IPL so far. He picked up an injury on his ankle during the India-Australia World T20 match in Mohali.
He hopes to return for his team’s home match against Suresh Raina’s Gujarat Lions at the Rajiv Gandhi International stadium in Hyderabad on May 6.
Yuvraj, who was bought for INR 7 crore, was expected to hand the Sunrisers’ line-up some added strength in the middle-order but his absence has created a lot of pressure on the overseas batsmen in the team.
