With the resounding victory over Sri Lanka at Mirpur, the men in blue have marched their way to the finals of the Asia Cup. The game though would be best remembered for Yuvraj Singh’s resurgence to form. The flamboyant southpaw made his critics eat the humble pie as his 18 ball knock of 35 was simply delightful. Yuvraj hit 3 maximums and all were timed to perfection.
Skipper MS Dhoni in the post match interview stated that the innings played by Yuvraj was very crucial. Dhoni also said that going into the ICC World T20, Singh’s innings was a significant one. “Yuvraj Singh’s innings was crucial, not just for this match but for the team as well, good to see him get into some good form,” said Dhoni.
“Today’s wicket was harder than some of the other wickets, but it was still a little soft, which allows the ball to grip and move around. It was good today, because you at least know it will be there for four overs or five overs. Overall, it was a track that was testing initially for the batsmen, but later on it was quite easy,” said Dhoni, about the wicket.
Man of the Match Virat Kohli too was delighted with his performance as he said, “Touchwood, it’s coming out nicely now. Another crunch situation, 16 for 2. It’s nice to challenge yourself. Kulasekara and Angie were bowling well. I knew I’m striking the ball well, so I have to take the pressure off the other batsman by hitting the odd boundary, but it has to be a cricketing shot.”
