Team India leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who has formed a strong partnership with left-arm wrist spinner Kuldeep Yadav has acknowledged the fact of MS Dhoni helping their cause on the field.
Meanwhile, the Haryana-based spinner Chahal has improved leaps and bounds while having an attacking mindset.
Concurrently, he is preparing for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2019 which will begin from May 30 in London.
Chahal ready for the World Cup challenge:
The 28-year-old Jind-born Chahal is a go-to spinner. He would be crucial with the bowl alongside Kuldeep in English conditions. He is working on his variations to make things difficult for the opposition.
“I am doing exactly what I have always been doing for the past few years. I have not brought many changes to my game. The variations are the same, but I am a bit more mature in mixing them up now,” Chahal told IANS.
Moreover, Chahal maintained he is privileged to play alongside Dhoni in particular. While speaking about the role of senior player, Chahal reiterated Dhoni’s experience has had eased things a bit for them while helping the spin duo in reading a surface.
More often than not, it has become a norm that Dhoni has been heard on stump mic of given inputs to spin duo which areas to bowl in under distinct circumstances.
He remarked the advice from Dhoni has played a pivotal role in India’s success. Adding, Dhoni has also come to their rescue straightaway at times.
Yuzi praises MSD for his help to him and Kuldeep Yadav:
Chahal maintained Dhoni helps them in understanding the wicket better early on. Interestingly, he stated they don’t have to figure out how things will work on the particular wicket when Dhoni is around. Thus, terming it as a massive bonus for them being as a spinner.
“Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) has helped a lot. He tells us how a wicket will play. So, it helps us figure things out quickly instead of wasting overs on trying to understand the wicket. So that has been a big plus point for both me and Kuldeep,” Chahal told IANS.
The World Cup-bound Chahal, who made his debut in June 2016 against Zimbabwe, has done exceedingly well to become India’s premium spinner in the contemporary cricket.
The prominent face in the India set-up, Chahal has also credited skipper Virat Kohli and his deputy Rohit Sharma for their suggestions. He added they have got a mutual understanding and conceded every player is a leader of his own.
Chahal added he is fortunate to share the dressing room with the seniors of the game.
“Apart from him, Virat (Kohli) and Rohit (Sharma) also always look to help us out. I think in our team every person is their own captain and we all respect each other. So for me and Kuldeep, it was great that we came into a dressing room that had these experienced players who were ready to back us up,” Chahal inferred.
As Chahal is expected to be an ‘X-factor’, he has a task at his hands to deliver in somewhat tricky conditions this time around.
