India’s leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal is leading his way being as a wicket-taker in Team India. He has snared wickets at crucial stages and has given ultimate breakthroughs to the team. However, former Pakistan spinner Mushtaq Ahmed believes that Chahal is talented, but he needs to improve his tactics to become more effective against the opposition.

In T20I format, Chahal is the highest wicket-taker for Team India as a spinner and second overall after Jasprit Bumrah (59). Chahal has picked up 55 wickets in 42 matches at an average of 24.34. Recently, he hasn’t got many chances to perform in ODIs. He has 91 wickets in 52 games at an economy rate of 5.07. His speciality is that he very well knows how and when to use each variation.

However, Ahmed, who has played 52 Test matches and 144 ODIs for Pakistan, has pointed out some areas where Chahal needs to improve to become a better spinner.

“Chahal is a very good bowler but can use the crease much better. He can go wide of the crease at times. You got to be smart enough to understand pitches. If it is a flat pitch, you can bowl stump to stump,” Ahmed, one of the best leg-spinners Pakistan has produced, told PTI.

The 49-year-old Mushtaq has said that former Indian captain MS Dhoni has helped the bowlers to groom. He also added that Virat Kohli is also following the steps of Dhoni and guiding the bowlers, which has strengthened the bowling unit of India.

“India has become a force to reckon with in all three formats as it uses its bowlers really well. Dhoni was a master at getting the best out of his bowlers in limited-overs cricket and now you have Virat Kohli.”

The former cricketer has also picked up Chahal including Adam Zampa and Pakistan’s Shadab Khan among the top leg-spinners in white-ball cricket.
