Delhi Daredevils held their nerve to pip Mumbai Indians by a mere 10 runs. With Rohit Sharma in the middle, MI looked set to cross the finish line. However, riding on Amit Mishra’s box of tricks and Chris Morris as well as Zaheer Khan pounding yorkers at will, DD were able to usurp their formidable foes. There was also drama in the middle with Rohit and Hardik colliding mid-pitch, resulting in former getting run-out. Earlier, Sanju Samson and Duminy crunched enterprising knocks to ensure DD would end up with a good total.
Delhi Daredevils captain after winning the match said, “It was difficult if you hit the right areas. The plan was to use the bowlers nicely. The game was going to go on until the last over, that’s what I felt in the beginning. It was about executing our plans and keeping 2-3 overs of leg spin for Pollard and Buttler.”
Zaheer also praised Samson and Samson and Duminy “They (Duminy and Samson) played really well – took their time. They took the responsibility because we played an extra bowler today. It’s tough when you have a big break but we are happy with the processes and making sure that practice sessions are not lengthy. There’s a lot of excitement; always is when you have a young team.”
But Mumbai Indian captain didn’t come to address the media.
Sanju Samson, who was awarded man of the match award for his knock 60 off 40 balls, said, “Feels really good to be a part of this team. Me and JP walked in and talked about having a good partnership because we needed to get a good score. He gave a great score. We are doing well as a team and hope we can continue.”
