10 Things to expect from the Premier League on the Boxing Day
The tradition of the Boxing Day will continue this season when all the 20 Premier League teams will be in action this weekend. There are a number of interesting matches that will surely keep the viewers glued to the games even as the festive mood will be all over the country.
Here are 10 things that we can look forward to in the Premier League this weekend:
1. Louis van Gaal’s job not getting any easier:
After the apology rant following rumors of his sacking, Louis van Gaal will face a stern test against Stoke City on the Boxing Day at the Britannia Stadium. They have looked seriously low on confidence and a win in the midst of the busy festive season can go a long way in taking the club to the top of table.
2. Can the Cherries continue their winning streak? :
AFC Bournemouth are un-beaten in their last 5 outings in the Premier League. They have beaten the likes of United and Chelsea in the process and are now 4 points off the drop zone. They will welcome Pardew’s Palace side that has a chance to break into the top 4 with a victory.
3. Foxes will relish playing at Anfield:
Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have not looked good going forward against teams who are set up to defend deep and hit them on the counter. Leicester City has mastered it this season and will hope to use it to good effect on Saturday when they travel to Anfield to take on the Reds.
4. Can the Canaries strengthen their position? :
Norwich City stunned Manchester United at the Old Trafford last weekend and will face another tough fixture against a Tottenham side that has been beaten just twice this season. Alex Neil will hope that he can build on their victory last weekend and can get a result from this game that will help their Premier League position.
5. Can the Citizens bounce back? :
Pellegrini’s side were well beaten at the Emirates last weekend by Arsenal and are now 6 points away from the top of the table. They will need to start finding consistency if they are to entertain any thoughts of the title this season. They will play a Sunderland team that is placed 19th in the points table.
6. Can Huddink start with a victory? :
A manger-less Chelsea pulled out a 3-1 victory against Sunderland last weekend and will be under Guus Hiddink for this match against Watford. Watford are fresh from a victory against Liverpool and will hope to give Chelsea a scare and will try and spoil Huddink’s party at his new club.
7. Swansea City need results and need them quickly:
The Irish outfit is playing without a manager in the last few games but have been playing impressive football. They have been unlucky in a couple of games but need some positive results to get out of the drop zone. They will face Baggies on Saturday and a win might take them out of the bottom 3.
8. Remi Garde needs his team to be stronger:
Aston Villa are at the bottom of the Premier League table with just 7 points from 17 games so far this season. They will face the Hammers who will hope to slowly climb up the points table. Remi Garde has got his team to play some organized football and will need his team to fight it out for results in this busy period that can see them come out of the drop zone.
9. Martinez needs some consistency:
Everton are without a win in 4 games in the Premier League and were beaten by the Foxes last time around. They will need to get back to winning ways and will face the Magpies on Saturday. Martinez will hope that his team can get the work done and take all three points that can see them climb up the table.
10. The Gunners not too far away:
Arsene Wenger’s squad has played some consistent football in the Premier League this season. They are just 2 points below the top placed Leicester City and will face a tough test against Southampton on Saturday. They will be favorites to take all three points from this game and are a squad that is not too far away from having a chance to lift the Premier League trophy.
