The new season of the Premier League has already entered its second quarter with clubs around the country still trying to find their best form early this season.
The likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool have been in decent form while Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur are in search of some consistency. Manchester United have a lot of ground to cover while Leicester City is not close to repeating their feat from the previous season.
However, we are into the 11th weekend of Premier League football, which promises some intense action this weekend. Here are 10 things to look forward to in the top flight of English football this weekend:
Last few games for Moyes:
The former Manchester United man is yet to register a victory in the new season and lies at the bottom of the table with just 2 points from 10 games. They travel to the Vitality Stadium this weekend in what will be a do or die game for the visiting manager who may well be relieved of his duties if his side’s performances continue.
Tough test for Palace:
After being mauled at home by Liverpool, Crystal Palace faces a tough test against newly promoted Burnley, who held Manchester United to a point at the Old Trafford last weekend. Sean Dyche’s side will be full of confidence and will hope to take all three points this weekend.
City on the rise:
With back to back victories in the League and the Champions League, Manchester City, have found some nice rhythm leading into the international break. They face Middlesbrough this weekend at home and are expected to put in a similar performance and consolidate their place at the top of the table.
Can Joe keep going?
Welsh international Joe Allen is the most inform midfielder in the Premier League at the moment according to the power ranking and he will once again have to play an important role when the Potters travel to the Olympic Stadium in London to face West Ham this weekend. The Hammers are low on confidence and will have to do extremely well to take anything from this game.
Diego Costa vs Romelu Lukaku:
In what will be the battle of two of the most prolific strikers in the league this season, Chelsea welcome Ronald Koeman’s Everton to the Bridge this weekend. Conte’s side have been superb in the last few games, and are yet to concede a goal in any of the last 4 league games. It will be an interesting game with both sides showing some decent form early this season.
Sunday Delight:
The biggest match of the week will be played at the Emirates in London between cross-town rivals Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The Spurs are unbeaten this season while the Gunners are one of the most in-form sides in the competition as this match promises to provide full value of entertainment to even the neutrals.
Can Soton build on recent form?
The Saints lost two matches in the last 7,that too against Arsenal and Manchester City and are looking a strong outfit this season. They are fresh from a victory over Inter Milan in the Europa League and the manager will hope that his team can take the form into this weekend and take all three points from their trip to the KCOM Stadium to face Hull City this weekend.
Anfield test for Mazzarri:
For the first time in his career, Walter Mazzarri will head into a Premier League fixture at Anfield when he travels to the Merseyside to face an in-form Liverpool side this weekend. The Hornets have been decent this season and will make sure that Liverpool work as hard as possible to take anything from this game.
Time running out for Mourinho:
The Manchester United manager has just not been able to stitch results together and has no win in the last two games in all competitions. His team is fresh off a loss to Fenerbahce in the Europa League in Istanbul and will travel to the Liberty Stadium this weekend for a crunch tie. It will be interesting to see what the manager does if he is not able to take all three points from this game.
Can the Foxes climb up the table?
The Champions of England are currently in the 11th place in the points table but have shown some decent form in the league recently. They will welcome the Baggies this weekend to the King Power knowing that a win can take them into the top half of the table. It will be an interesting game with both sides still trying to find their best form.
