Unlucky 13!! Stats Show How Poor Arsenal Were Against Bayern Munich 1

Arsenal’s Champions League dream may have come to a crashing end this season as their trip to the Allianz Arena ended in a 5-1 defeat for the second consecutive season.

The Gunners, who put on a decent first half display, went into the break at 1-1, placed comfortably but they lost star defender Laurent Koscielny to injury and self-imploded in the second half.

Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and Thiago Alacantra all got themselves on the scoresheet to give Arsenal a 5-1 defeat, leaving them no chance of getting back into the tie, even at the Emirates.

It was a night to forget, which started with Arjen Robben’s sublime striker early in the first half but nothing much went right for the Gunners on the night.

So it does not come as a surprise that papers around the country are busy trying to dissect each and every aspect of the game at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

As if the performance from the side was not enough, a number of ugly stats have been doing the rounds on social media today, which will surely hurt every Arsenal fan.

But the harsh truth is that they were badly beaten by a team far superior in quality on the night.

Here are 13 such stats which truly capitulate the nightmare of a night the Gunners had at the Allianz Arena:

Arsenal are the first English team to have conceded 200 Champions League goals. 10 of them in the last two games at the Allianz!

The Gunners have conceded at least three goals in four of their last six first leg matches in the last-16 of the Champions League. Talk about handling pressure in knockout games!

They lost the first leg of a last-16 match for the SIXTH year in a row. That is some consistency!

And look like exiting at this stage for the SEVENTH year in a row. Some might call this a routine!

On Wednesday night, Xabi Alonso completed 17 more passes than Granit Xhaka, Mesut Ozil, Alexis Sanchez and Kieran Gibbs COMBINED (100-83).  And he is 35!

Thiago Alcantara completed more passes in the final third than Ozil did anywhere on the pitch. How badly did Arsenal need Ozil in this game.

Manuel Neuer attempted the same amount of passes as Ozil (20-20). That tells a lot about the playmaker’s performance. Just atrocious.

Mesut Ozil failed to complete a single dribble in the entire game. Atrocious and worse!

Francis Coquelin completed just SIX passes during his 77 minutes on the pitch. Wonder how many found its target in free space.

And failed to win a single tackle. That is just woeful.

Arjen Robben has now scored in back-to-back Champions League appearances against Arsenal. Catch me if you can!

Shkodran Mustafi failed to make a single tackle in the entire game. Hometown jitters?

And finally, Arsenal have never overturned this big a deficit in the second leg of a knockout competition. Very little hope!

Surely, it was a game that Wenger would want his boys to get out of their system as quickly as possible. Do you think Arsenal have even the slightest of the chance to get back at Bayern at the Emirates in a fortnight?
