Breaking: £172million Transfer Battle For Gareth Bale To Start Between Chelsea And Manchester United

Manchester United and Chelsea are prepared to spend a stunning £172million for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale, according to reports.

Bale has been a huge hit at Real Madrid since signing from Tottenham for £80million back in 2013.

The Wales international has helped the club win two Champions League titles in three years – scoring in the 2014 final victory over Atletico Madrid.

His rise to the top means he is regularly linked with a move back to England. He pledged his future to Madrid last year by signing a new five-year deal worth £350,000-per-week.

But Manchester United and Chelsea remain keen on luring him to the Premier League.

And Spanish outlet Don Balon claim both clubs are prepared to pay £172million to bring him back. United have wanted Bale dating back to his days in the Southampton academy.

They lost out to Spurs in 2007 and were gazumped by Madrid during David Moyes’ time in charge. It is claimed they are confident a deal can be struck despite the player being happy in Spain.

His failure to oust Cristiano Ronaldo as the club’s main man could mean he opts to leave to be a talisman elsewhere.

And the prospect of being the player who clubs have paid the most for throughout history represents an added incentive to leave the Spanish capital.

Manchester United are believed to be ready to counter Real Madrid’s renewed interest in goalkeeper David De Gea by offering him as part of a deal to bring Bale to Old Trafford.

Although the United number one is happy with life under Jose Mourinho there is an acceptance that if Madrid come in with a substantial bid in the summer it would be difficult to prevent De Gea joining his boyhood club.

However, the United board are ready to use Madrid’s interest to try and prise away a player they have twice before tried to sign.

Catalan daily Sport, meanwhile, claims few unnamed senior players in the Real squad remain unconvinced by the Welshman’s qualities and believe he does not warrant his upgraded £14.3m -per-year deal.

And Bale himself, according to another Spanish outlet, has reportedly grown unhappy with president Florentino Perez and manager Zinedine Zidane.
