20 slowest players in the Premier League this season including big surprises!

The Premier League is host to some of the best talents in Europe and has been one of the most competitive leagues in Europe for a long time now. It has a mixture of great potential and even better quality and is easily one of the most exciting leagues in the world.
So a number of stats make for interesting readings, 9 games into the current season. One such stat that shows how ineffective certain players have been being their top speeds.
Data provided by Opta has revealed the top speed each player has reached during a league game this term and here are the top 20 slowest players in the League this season including Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea stars:
- Ilkay Gundogan – Manchester City (Top speed: 30.15km/h):
The summer buy for Manchester City is still getting used to the Premier League and is one of the slowest players this season.
- Leon Britton – Swansea City (Top speed: 30.13km/h):
The long-serving Swansea midfielder also made the cut as one of the slowest players in the league this season
- Memphis Depay – Manchester United (Top speed: 30.12km/h):
The Manchester United outcast is currently out of favor at the club and this stat shows why Mourinho is not ready to play him regularly
- Max Gradel – AFC Bournemouth (Top speed: 30.06km/h):
The 28-year old attacker has been impressive for the Cherries this season but is one of the slowest players in the League
- James Ward-Prowse – Southampton (Top speed: 29.99km/h):
The young Englishman has made a decent start to the campaign with the Saints but has made it into this list early this season
- Luis Hernandez – Leicester City (Top speed: 29.92km/h):
The Leicester City defender has made a strong start to the season but has an unwanted place in this list.
- Harry Maguire – Hull City (Top speed: 29.91km/h):
The Hull City defender has been impressive so far this season but will find a place in this list of slowest Premier League players.
- Santi Cazorla – Arsenal (Top speed: 29.9km/h):
The 31-year old Spaniard has been an impact player for the Gunners this season but he is not the quickest players around anymore at his age.
- Tom Huddlestone – Hull City (Top speed: 29.8km/h):
The second player from Hull City on this list, Huddlestone, is also one of the slowest players in the League this season.
- Mohamed Elneny – Arsenal (Top speed: 29.86 km/h):
The Gunners midfielder has adjusted to the needs of the Premier League well but is still one of the slowest players in the League.
- Andy King – Leicester City (Top speed: 29.7km/h):
The long-serving midfielder for the Champions of England, Andy King, is also one of the slowest players in the league at 27 years of age.
- Craig Gardner – West Bromwich Albion (Top speed: 29.62km/h):
The Baggies midfielder has been solid in the midfield for Pulis’ side but his speed has always been a liability for his side.
- Hal Robson-Kanu- West Bromwich Albion (Top speed: 29.49km/h):
Another Baggies player who make it into this list, Hal Robson-Kanu, is yet to score a goal in the league for the Baggies and is one of the slowest players in the League.
- Gareth Barry – Everton (Top speed: 29.4km/h):
Not known for his speed on the turf, the Everton midfielder has made it into this list to occupy the 7th place.
- Lucas Leiva – Liverpool (Top speed: 29.37km/h):
The Brazilian has been used as a center back for most of his appearances and has been recorded as one of the slowest players in the league.
- Olivier Giroud – Arsenal (Top speed: 29.19km/h):
In a stat that should bother the Gunners, Olivier Giroud, the first choice striker for Arsenal, is one of the slowest players in the league.
- Shaun Maloney – Hull City (Top speed: 28.87km/h):
The third player on this list from Hull, Maloney, has not been able to help his side in attack this season and is clocked as one of the slowest in the Premier League.
- Cesc Fabregas – Chelsea (Top speed: 28.73km/h):
The Spaniard has been out of favor under Antonio Conte and being one of the slowest players in the League might just justify the manager’s team selection recently.
- Peter Crouch – Stoke City (Top speed: 28.58km/h):
A player with a completely different set of attributes, Peter Crouch, is now recorded as the second slowest player in the Premier League.
- Charlie Adam – Stoke City (Top speed: 26.72km/h):
The 30-year old Stoke midfielder has been decent for the Potters this season but he is the slowest player in the English domestic League so far this season
