Poland and Colombia will be desperately looking to open their account when they take on each other in the third and final game of Sunday.
With Senegal and Japan being the other two teams of Group H, this group was viewed pre-tournament as likely to be the most tightly-contested pool. But while early indications are that could prove to be the case, very few were expecting Japan and Senegal to occupy the top two positions after the first game.
Colombia suffered a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Japan in their opener. Although the South Americans played virtually the entire game with ten men, one can say that they looked far from being impressive. A defeat has put them on the verge of getting eliminated in the first round itself.
But fortunately, they are up against a side which suffered the same fate in its opener. Senegal had inflicted a 2-1 defeat on Poland.
Over the past four World Cups, only four of 46 teams to lose their first game have qualified for the last 16. However, a victory for either of these two will certainly reignite their tournaments.
Sportzwiki brings you all you need to know ahead of the clash between the two sides.
Venue and time:
Poland and Senegal will lock horns at the Kazan Arena. The action will begin at 11:30 PM IST on Sunday.
Players to look out for:
Poland – Robert Lewandowski
After the lukewarm start, Poland will be banking its hopes on Robert Lewandowski. The Bayern Munich star looked like a pale shadow of his usual self against Senegal and will be looking to come up with an inspired display in the crunch clash.
Colombia – James Rodriguez
James is expected to come back into Colombia’s lineup. Although Juan Quintero scored as his replacement last time, James presence was clearly missed. Having him in the starting eleven could help Colombia get the momentum from the very beginning.
