England skipper Harry Kane faces being booked even before the action begins for him and his team in the ongoing 2022 FIFA World Cup. England will be opening their campaign in the competition on Monday when they lock horns against Iran.
FIFA has reportedly banned Kane from wearing the “OneLove” armband designed to express solidarity with marginalised people, including the criminalised gay community. The governing body of the game has already told the FA that wearing the armband would be a breach of regulations.
Kane, on the other hand, is determined to go ahead with the rainbow armband and it could potentially lead to an explosive situation. If the Tottenham Hotspur superstar indeed goes ahead with the armband, there is a possibility that FIFA could intervene and order it to be removed or attempt to physically strip it off the England skipper.

Harry Kane could also face potential booking if he decides to go against the FIFA regulations and sport the rainbow armband. With two bookings bringing a one-match ban, such a policy could have a major impact on the 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign for Kane and his team.
England are the first of the European teams committed to the policy to go into action when they take on Iran. What happens before this game could very well shape up the decision of the other teams too. Earlier on Sunday, Kane had said: “I feel we’ve made it clear as a team, as a staff and as an organisation that we want to wear the armband.
“I know the FA are talking to Fifa at the moment. I’m sure by game time tomorrow they’ll have their decision. We’ve made it clear that we want to wear it.”
Netherlands skipper Virgil van Dijk had also pledged to wear the armband. Speaking ahead of his team’s game against Senegal on Monday, he had said: “I will wear the One Love armband tomorrow.
“Nothing changed from our point of view. If I will get a yellow card for wearing it then we would have to discuss it because I don’t like to play while being on a yellow [card].”
