Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United managed to step into the quarter-final of the FA Cup where they were drawn with Chelsea and they also put a foot in the Round of 16 of the Europa League, where they are drawn against FC Rostov a Russian domestic outfit. They were supposed to be busy with the Manchester derby in the Premier League this weekend but that game is postponed as the Red Devils will be busy at Wembley, trying to get their hands on the League Cup. Having beaten Hull City in the semi-final over two legs, United set up a Wembley showdown against Claude Puel’s Southampton side and this game will be played on Sunday, the 26th of February. Mourinho will want this trophy at any cost, to start his stint at the Old Trafford with success and here is the predicted lineup he might field for this tie:
The Red Devils will still be without the likes of Henrikh Mkhitaryan who is out injured. He was excluded from the squad that traveled to Wembley for this game. Phil Jones and Michael Carrick are both in the squad and could play a part in this game while Juan Mata was absent from the squad that took off to Wembley.
Expected lineup (4-3-3):
David de Gea:
The first choice shot-stopper for United, De Gea, will keep his place in the side for this Cup final at Wembley.
One of the most consistent defenders for United this season, Valencia, will be up against the likes of Redmond in this game against Southampton.
The summer buy is fast growing into an important player for Manchester United and is expected to start this game for his side at the back.
The make-shift center back for United, Rojo has been solid at the back this season for United and he will hope to have a comfortable game against the Saints.
With neither Darmian nor Shaw in the good books of the manager, Blind, who has been decent in last few outings should start at left-back for United.
Arguably the best midfielder for United this season, Herrera has been superb alongside Pogba and should start this game at Wembley.
Just back from an injury, Carrick should start this game in the middle of the Park for Untied to add some much-needed mettle to the midfield of the side.
The world record signing for United, Pogba has not been at his best but is growing in confidence off late and this game is tailor made for him to be an instant hero at the Old Trafford.
The skipper of the side, Rooney, is also just back from an injury and Mourinho hinted that he could start this game in the place of the injured Mata and Mkhitaryan for Manchester United.
Slowly cementing a place in the side, Martial has been splendid in recent weeks and he will hope to have an impact on this final at the Wembley.
The Swede has been the best player this season for the Red Devils and he should have a good game if United are to stand a shot at the trophy.
