- Shkodran Mustafi (Valencia to Arsenal; £35m):
One of the biggest saga’s of the summer, Arsenal’s hunt for a defender ended when the German international finally made a move to the Emirates in the last week of the transfer window. Arsenal lost Per Mertesacker and Gabriel to injuries earlier last month and were in desperate need of reinforcements and it was revealed that the Gunners were close to a deal since the start of the last month. However, the price inflated almost by the day and Wenger had to pay up all of £35m for Mustafi who is the 5th most expensive transfer this summer.
