5-Star Manchester City Blow Away Cardiff City To Maintain Unbeaten Start

Manchester City bounced back from their disappointing defeat to Lyon in the Champions League midweek by thrashing Cardiff City 5-0.

Sergio Aguero celebrated his new contract with Manchester City by opening the flood gates as he scored his 205th goal for the club. The Argentina star finished brilliantly after being set up by Bernadro Silva in the 32nd-minute.

As expected, Manchester City started on the front foot. However, the home side looked more than happy to sit back and defend. But after a frustrating half-hour, the defending champions took the lead just after the half-hour mark through Aguero.

Three minutes after the assist, Silva got his name on the scoresheet. The Portugal international latched onto Leroy Sane’s cross and looped his backwards header into the far corner. And the game was all but over for Cardiff City when Ilkay Gundogan made it three just before the break. The former Borussia Dortmund star played a short one-two with Raheem Sterling on the edge of the area before curling an unstoppable effort.

Things could have gone worse for Cardiff before the break but Joe Ralls luckily escaped with only a yellow card from ref Michael Oliver for a horrible studs-up challenge on Gundogan.

The break did not bring any respite for Neil Warnock’s men. In fact, it got worse when full-back Lee Peltier suffered shoulder ligament damage after he slipped while chasing Sane a minute into the second half.

Manchester City were thoroughly in command while Cardiff were trying desperately to limit the damage control. However, Riyad Mahrez piled more misery on them by adding a fourth for City just six minutes after replacing Aguero. The former Leicester City star then got his second after Bluebirds defender Bruno cleared straight into his path to fire home the fifth.
