Manchester United’s new recruit Casemiro has already showing the mentality which the club has been lacking over the last few years. The former Real Madrid midfielder declared United the ‘biggest’ club in England while speaking in an interview with the club’s official website. United forked out a whopping £70 million on the signing of the 30-year-old, which includes a £60 million guaranteed fee plus another £10 million in add-ons.
The Red Devils have already endured a torrid transfer market, missing out on many of their prime targets. Casemiro’s acquisition too came after they failed to convince Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong to join them despite agreeing a £71 million deal with the Catalans. However, the Brazilian’s signing has raised eyebrows around the club, given the four-year contract he has penned at Old Trafford which is worth £350,000 per-week.
Casemiro labels United ‘the biggest club in England’
United have seen a massive fall in their legacy since Sir Alex Ferguson left back in 2013. The Red Devils’ last Premier League triumph dates back to 2012/13 season, and they are yet to win a trophy since 2017 as well. The club has once again gone managerial change this season as Erik ten Hag took over the reigns. He too has started his debut season in somewhat trembling manner, after losing first two games against Brighton and Brentford.
But United made a staggering comeback in their last game as they gunned down the mighty Liverpool side of Jurgen Klopp. Casemiro was in the stands for the Red Devils as he saw his new team deliver a robust performance after back-to-back defeats. Now, in his interview with the club’s website Casemiro has talked about his first impressions of the 20-time Premier League champions.
He said: “We know there’s a great deal of history here [at Manchester United]. It’s a club that has a lot of history, not just the stadium but the club as well. It has won everything and I want to meet my teammates and help the team and I’m one more player at Manchester United.
“It’s the biggest club in England. It’s the club with the most amount of titles. So, I’m really happy and just can’t wait to get going. The Premier League is a dream to play in. It’s a wonderful league. The ground breathes football and I’m delighted to be here.”
Casemiro had a stellar career at Real Madrid, making 336 appearances and winning 18 titles across eight seasons. He formed a colossal midfield partnership with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos at Santiago Bernabeu who are regarded as one of the finest trios in the history of football. They helped Real to four Champions League titles which included a three-peat from the seasons 2015 to 2018.
The Brazilian will now link up with his former teammates from that famous Champions League three-peat Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane at Old Trafford. Casemiro is now in contention to make his Man United debut away at Southampton next weekend as the Devils look to build on their Liverpool win to climb up the table.
